CAC to Non-Profit Incorporation.
A panel of CAC Officers will study
By-Laws. Advantage of Incorporating: we will become an entity. A
Non-Profit status will give us recognition. Board voted to
proceed with pursuit of Incorporation. CAC Committee composed of
CAC Officers will study By-Laws
Carolyn Downing updated us on
Startex.org website. By the way, if you have anything you
want to send to put on the website, please do so. Stories,
anecdotes, anything of interest to villagers or alumni will be
welcome. Send to webmaster on the contact
page.
Carolyn informed us that Don Jones
is still involved with Startex community interests. He still
wants to buy the old mill. The cost is over $300,000, raised
many times over by the present owner. Let's pray that the
negotiations will take a turn in Don's favor. We'd love to see
one of our Startex folk take over the property.
Carolyn informed us of two grants
available to Startex:
The Walter A. Montgomery Grant and
the Rose Montgomery Grant. Kristie cited another grant: Palmetto
Pride Grant.
Lee Harvey talked with the
chairperson of the Spartanburg County Housing & Economic
Development Department. He was informed that $1.8 million is
designated for the upcoming Startex project (18 months up road).
At that time, a committee will come to correct sewage problems.
Also, village homes may be selected for upgrading consideration
(up to $25,000). Investment properties are not eligible, only
ones owned.
CRIME WATCH UPDATE
Kristie Bentley checked on
customized Crime Watch signs. The Spartanburg Custom Signs do
not do customized Neighborhood Crime Watch signs. For $22 per
sign, they will reproduce Sheriff's Dept. sign. Kristie
says, "the phone numbers given us by the Sheriff do
work." She cited several incidents, including calling
animal control, when prompt responses ensued.
Problems with Piedmont Natural Gas
Co.: While installing gas lines, PNG failed to come back and fix
the big holes they made in the concrete sidewalks. They are
under contract to do so. Kristie will call the Gas Company.
NEW BUSINESS:
Kristie Bentley says that River
Hills Baptist Church has offered to help folks in the village
who need help. No cost. This will be a church mission project.
Must be owned property. Leaky roofs, painting, yard work, and
etc. help is available. The church is also willing to help CAC
on village clean-up days. Volunteers are available for whatever
help is needed.
There is also PROVISIONS, ON Hwy
29, which helps communities with economic or domestic issues.
Free services. They will come to CAC to give info on their
services. Kristie volunteered to call Ms. Medly and invite her
to speak soon. We will inform you of the date.
MEETING TO STUDY AND DRAW UP
