Above is the Startex Hotel in the mid-20th
century, where unmarried teachers lived.
The teachers had to be single and they had to attend
Church. They only had to pay $6.00 per week and this included
their meals and room.
At the right is a picture of one of the hotels rooms, the kitchen
and a napkin from the hotel.
.
Notice the Startex Hotel name in the photo of the napkin.
Last year at the
Reunion
, we were honored to have Johnny Sanders who was raised in Startex
to give us a Table Cloth and napkins. We are very proud of those.
Later in the 1960’s it
was torn down. We who
lived here have some good memories; Some even went to first grade
in the Hotel.
People who never lived in a
Mill
Village
don’t know what they missed. We have some great memories and we
would not change them. The people were just one big family because
we were raised to appreciate what we had, which was not much but
we were happy.
