twelve-week course at the Center in Computer, business tools,
and basic skills. Their tradition (the Urban League of the
Upstate) is to train job seekers and provide a place for them to
meet with upstate employers and to enter the work force with

Speaker: Billy Cochran, from SJWD. INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE:
Billy said that every water line in Startex will be replaced,
including
Hickory Street
. Meter boxes will be moved.
Phase
I: Lines (12 in. water lines) will be run by contractors.
Phase
II: Backstreets: SJWD crews will begin the work maybe September
or October. All new fire hydrants will be installed, with county
code protection. Work begins in August or September. By next
summer, all residents will have fire protection. The old fire
hydrants will be removed.
They
said they can complete the job in 100 days.
(The goal is 130 days).
If
anything is broken in the process, they will fix it.

UPDATE
Paul
Rathe has fulfilled his commitment in partnering with the water
project. Mallory commented on his faithfulness and help in the
partnership. She also is scheduled to meet with Carter Smith to
explore ideas for restoring/introducing commerce in Startex.
Other resources for help included the five-year consolidated
plan, which scheduled a meeting in Lyman (to get input from the
community).
